I worked for six years as a sales representative for a foundation repair and waterproofing company. During that time I inspected over 2,000 properties and received extensive training and hands on experience with home building in general, as well as in-depth training in waterproofing, foundation repair, and crawl space care. I have always been committed to self study and independent learning, and have received education in various branches of the trades (coating inspection through AMPP, home inspection through InterNACHI, hydroelectric, etc.).

In the foundation repair field, I often came across confusing situations that did not line up with typical diagnoses, and I had to research (at times contacting specialists in other fields) to determine the cause of what the home was experiencing. On more occasions than I can count, this allowed me to provide the homeowner with the correct solution after other contractors had assessed the home and provided a very expensive proposal for a completely useless service.
I can recall numerous customers who had received quotes ranging from $30,000-$65,000 for foundation repairs, when they needed another service altogether from a different trade that set them back $8,000 - $12,000.

In a single year in the sales position, I calculated I had “talked myself out of” roughly $130,000 of business, simply because I was honest and referred customers to the proper contractor or let them know the problem did not need fixing (such as minor cosmetic issues that simply needed patching). There’s a specific high that comes from making a huge sale (ask any salesperson), but a completely different one from saving homeowners from a massive wasted investment.
